Hi Jane Coombe, Strategic & Programme Consultant at Wordworks Jane

Hope you are well - a question came up from our side around analytics so I need to find out if you prefer using google analytics or if you prefer using Cloudflare (or perhaps both!)

I assume you would want to know the benefits of one vs the other so I have included that for you below:

Google Analytics
and Cloudflare Analytics are both powerful tools for tracking website traffic and user behavior. However, they have distinct strengths and cater to different needs.

Google Analytics

  • Depth of Analysis: Google Analytics offers a comprehensive suite of metrics and dimensions, providing deep insights into user behavior, demographics, and conversions.
  • Advanced Features: It includes features like audience segmentation, custom reports, and integration with other Google tools (Google Ads, Search Console, etc.).
  • Market Leader: Google Analytics is the industry standard, widely used and supported.
  • Data Privacy: While Google has faced privacy concerns, it has made strides in improving data protection and compliance.

Cloudflare Analytics

  • Simplicity: Cloudflare Analytics is designed to be user-friendly, with a focus on providing essential metrics without overwhelming users.
  • Privacy-Focused: Cloudflare emphasizes privacy and data security, using a different approach to tracking that doesn't rely on cookies.
  • Integration with Cloudflare: It's seamlessly integrated into Cloudflare's other services, making it a convenient choice for Cloudflare users.
  • Limited Features: While it offers basic analytics, it may lack the advanced features and customization options of Google Analytics.

When to Choose Google Analytics:

  • If you need in-depth analysis, audience segmentation, and advanced reporting features.
  • If you want to integrate with other Google tools for a holistic view of your online marketing.
  • If you're comfortable with a more complex analytics solution.

When to Choose Cloudflare Analytics:

  • If you prioritize simplicity and ease of use.
  • If you're concerned about privacy and want a cookie-less tracking solution.
  • If you're already using Cloudflare's other services and want a unified analytics experience.

In many cases, using both Google Analytics and Cloudflare Analytics can provide a comprehensive view of your website's performance.
Google Analytics can offer detailed insights, while Cloudflare Analytics can provide a simpler, privacy-focused overview.

Ultimately, the best choice for you depends on your specific needs, technical expertise, and priorities.

Hi Robyn, Project Manager at Matogen Digital Robyn - I've chatted to the team, and unless Ian Parsons, Head Chef at Matogen Digital Ian wants to put up a strong case for Cloudflare, we think we should stick to Google Analytics given our history with using analytics and other tools in the google suite.

Yes, my suggestion would be to stay with GA, not least because you have legacy data and your GA is tied to Lookerstudio.
