Matogen Team,

Lori from CFANS Communications put together a 'draft video script' for the Can we cost-effectively reduce water pollution from fertilizer runoff video. The script lays out the potential visual and narrative of the video.

To make things easy, I'm linking to all three related videos files. Please let us know if you need anything else from us. We are very excited to see this first video as it takes shape.

GEMS Videos, 2024, Phase 1 (where we answer the questions you put forth for the first four videos) Fertilizer runoff is video B

Lori has done excellent work here! And, I'm super excited to help build out this video for GEMS. Her script and guidelines are super straightforward and I think will be very easy to follow and produce a video.

As Lori mentioned, we may need to consider including one or two shots from the interviews where some of the main players (Phil, Jim, etc.), talk on these themes or GEMS more broadly.

This will extend the video length and wonder if they would be interested in 2 versions. Either both or 1 of these:
  • Video 1 (±1min) with an added write-up as Lori suggested to give additional context. Questions:
    • Would it be easily sharable if it included an extended write-up?
    • Or, could they aim for a shorter write-up that acts as a caption?
    • If we have an extended write-up, would it make sense to do a blog post that houses this video and then share a link to the blog post, or might this become outdated over time?
  • Video 2 (±2min) and extended version of video 1 with added interview snippets that give additional context. i.e. How GEMS operates and why...

Laura Hurley, Designer, UX and Engagement Specialist at Matogen Digital Laura my view is that we should do a longer video so that we can make use of our interview footage. I don't think we'd have budget for two versions, so GEMS team will need to choose which approach they prefer.

They've also written quite a bit on this specific topic, here: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1VO30AUd1puWmVFwxXFISBkqtQe7Rn0W04KjTH8eKq8w/edit. We can publish this as a blog post and include the video, but we can then also share the video on its own or suggest to Phil and co that they include it in presentations, like Lori said.

Yes, that write-up has a lot of context and thinking it will serve very well as a blog with the video linked (the write-up will need some creative finessing for sure). And, with a longer video having enough context added using the interview snippets, it will work well to share stand-alone.
