They have confirmed that my code has been deployed and closed the ticket. However the CSS is still not displaying. I cleared the varnish cache and logged in and cleared the cache in the backend. I deployed my code to stage as well to test and the styling is picking up there as well. I have emailed the person who deployed the site and asked them for assistance seeing is they can see if the files did go up or if they can clear the cache from their side
David M.
I hope for no issues tonight 🤞🏼
Robyn
Shame Dave, thanks so much for trying - I actually completely forgot about this roll-out so thank you for showing up so late and trying to get it done for us. Good luck getting the issue resolved ✨
David M.
Hey
Robyn Robyn
, They pushed my changes but my CSS is not resolving. I have tried to clear the cache on Drupal and the varnish cache but still not updating. I want to run it again on my local and push it to production. however I have not fixed my local gems environment yet and cannot run my SCSS file to make a new CSS file. I will try to fix it in the morning. I do see my synchronized files in the admin area but I wont run them and build the pages as of yet until we get the CSS resolved or it will look broken without it
David M.
All good! good that we check
Robyn
ahh, sorry Dave, its the dev back end where I saw it - ignore - sorry for wasting your precious time!
David M.
David M.
Normally the Drupal team handles the update. Live is on the same version and not showing an error message
David M.
I will get back when I find out more info
David M.
I am having a look at it now and comparing to live.
Robyn
Robyn
Sorry
David Mundell David
testing GEMS and see this alert in the back-end
Robyn
yay! Well done!
David M.
🔥I am relieved that it is working but lets double check everything tomorrow
Ian P.
Well done on getting it working
Ian P.
That's awesome news, thank you David!
David M.
GEMS Drupal 11 looks to be working fine on my local after small modifications.

Initially I could not get the theme to work. I updated the YAML files and it didn't work. Cursor suggested I move the theme with the other main themes and it then worked however the University uses a specific directory. After moving it back it looks to be working fine. I did have one or two other issues but that was when I moved the files. I will do a demo tomorrow morning during stand up and we can discuss further.
David M.
Thanks
Ian Parsons Ian
. The way they worded that email is only if we are having issues. I am not seeing any issues with GEMS but if we pickup any issues then we can then try and move the CSS to THEMES.
Ian P.
David Mundell David
thanks for your feedback on Folwell themes. I don't know what's best for GEMS, so I'll leave it in your capable hands
Robyn
not urgent for today, thanks Dave
David M.
I will read up on Popetech after I finish IIB
David M.
David M.
It looks as if there is a sign in and that what she is referring to on the call
David M.
I have not as of yet
Robyn
Lekker, maybe worth looking at the university docs anyhow to see how it works, not urgent for today - thank you
David M.
David M.
Thanks Robs, Here is live that seems to have a Popetech Module
Ian P.
Have you looked for any university documentation online about it?
Robyn
Thanks
David Mundell David
happy to wait for xoliswa, I listened to the call and she said it was on staging so I need clarity on next steps. Is this it or do we need something more - I understand you have not had time to look at the recordings yet, its been so hectic so lets see if X can help - Otherwise, you guys need to ask the IT guys - thank you
David M.
David M.
Thanks
Robyn Robyn
, I have not had the time to watch those recordings of the webinar. I remember Xoliswa said something about asking for access. Can we wait for tomorrow for more information as she seems to know what is going on there. I can assist and check for Popetech. Here is a module installed however I am not sure if there is more then one or if its the correct one.
Robyn
I pulled the recording and you guys were going to check that we have it place - Xoliswa said its on staging, I dont know how to check that we have it and not spotting it - please can one of you pick it up
Xoliswa Shandu Xoliswa
David Mundell David
 - I will task you as well
Robyn
Xoliswa Shandu Xoliswa
David Mundell David
please remind me if we need to check if Pope Tech is something we need to request - I don't recall next steps here so please let me know
Robyn
Blog issue is resolved, she pasted the information into the wrong place so its just this update, thanks Dave x
Robyn
David Mundell David
I can see she loaded the content into the wrong place so quickly fixing that which means we only need to look at this modules / theme update
Robyn
Robyn
Morning - Heads up
Xoliswa Shandu Xoliswa
and
David Mundell David
I did the light testing recommended but seems like the roll-out did bring some issues (I think it went live last night but not sure if its related but seems like a new issue) Kris is struggling to load a GEMS blog - they have not loaded a blog in a long time so its possible this issue has been with us for a while - never the less when I logged in to check if I can figure things out I see an alert - going to check our other sites but this needs to be looked at today
Robyn
dankie baie! They are going to be delighted, also, Dave has done an excellent job of fixing up the GEMS team page - it is significantly easier to load a new person & visually faultless in my opinion, shout out to
David Mundell David

Hey
Ian Parsons Ian
two things - would you like to read / approve Michelle's blog or can I just share it ? 2. I am downloading Pieter's video - it would be amazing if you can check it before you head out today so we can give them feedback today still if needed. If no feedback, I can obviously share with GEMS today which would be ahead of schedule which they would love.
Ian P.
No - let me check
Robyn
did they say when it will be ready
Ian P.
The video won't be ready for today
Robyn
Ian Parsons Ian
did we maybe hear back from Pieter re the edits? Wondering if this video is going to be ready for our chat today?
Ian P.
Thanks, I'll ask Pieter to make some changes before I share with the GEMS team
Robyn
Ian Parsons Ian
great video but couple of notes that I can spot already - Climate change is a hot topic, they didnt want to reference that specifically, they wanted both guys voices - we only have Kevin's - maybe they happy, but suspect it was meant to be both. The intro is supposed to have the same vibes as the other videos produced - the whole puzzle piece vibes as the intro, we can see what they say but i recall something like this. The baysian model slide with the question mark is not hitting the mark - the intent Phil had was to show complexity so the model with the question mark on the slide does not do that - my two cents for you to use or lose - might be worth going over this with them in person to get their feedback
Robyn
on it - thanks Ian
Ian P.
Having a look at the video now
Ian P.
Robyn Robyn
would you download and add to our shared GEMS drive please? https://fromsmash.com/How_can_we_help_crops_thrive_in_changing_climates

very weird
Ian P.
I see that now - strange.
Robyn
I went into fix bryan but you cannot see properly and it was not working at the time so I assume my last fix worked - will try again but this is a poor user experience so think it needs a good polish
Robyn

Robyn
Hey Ian, okay cool, I will check - its behaving really weirdly when I tried so hopefully just cacheing weirdness, when you go into check the others it looks like they dont have a link so its really confusing
Ian P.
Robyn Robyn
I had a quick look at the anchor links on the GEMS team page. It's working for me; you'll see Bryan's link now goes to his section.

I am working on CRM testing and noticed this on the GEMS site - we can look at it next week but think we need to check
Laura H.
Agg cutest!!
Robyn
Laura H.
Yea! We can definitely crop out some of the longer pauses and use bits from one or the other to make it work!
Robyn
Kevin's all sound good to me but 1 or 2 is better than 3
Robyn
The second one for Phil is definitely better and more Phil like - the first one is a bit slow but sounds like him!
Laura H.
Robyn
You can however, reject all so think we are good
Robyn
You cannot unselect the necessary slider so assume that's fine 😀
Ian Parsons Ian

Ian P.
Thanks
Robyn Robyn

i checked GEMS incognito and the privacy policy seems good to me, I switched on the additional sliders - only one was selected when I started  ( I assume that's right) the necessary button

Hey

, I check and the canonical is fine to go live as well, its a module 💪🏼
David M.
let me check what i did on gems quickly

Oh damn well MSI is now ready 😅
Ian P.
?
Ian P.
David Mundell David
sorry, I think you're talking about MSI? Or were there images on GEMS too
David M.
I updated the admin area and pre loaded the images 💪
David M.
Yes should be fine. I will add my changes to the admin area now quickly
Ian P.
David Mundell David
I need to push a fix to the GEMS site; is it ok if I deploy your code as well?
Ian P.
Great, thanks David!
David M.
Hey
Ian Parsons Ian
, The GEMS changes are now live
David M.
Ticket created 🎫. I will update once the changes are live 🚀
David M.
okay great! Yes I would like to go live 💪🏼
Ian P.
David Mundell David
you can go ahead and merge to main if you're ready, then request a deployment to production.
David M.
Hey
Ian Parsons Ian
, I have pushed a block override for the footer unit. I wont merge to main as DEV contains Iubenda code as well.
David M.
I didn't see this message 🤯
Ian P.
David Mundell David
I've added a new module to GEMS to manage Iubenda settings. Once I've tested this, can I push this to production, or are there other changes that we should not push yet?
Laura H.
Gonna have to do some research and see what tools are best. :)
Robyn
Thanks
Laura Hurley Laura
all good, I wanted to see what tool we are going to use to make sure we have something and to add it to Anytype :) Thank you
Laura H.
Hey
Robyn Robyn
thanks for sharing this, I realised I must've opened this email from Phil over the weekend, not read it and didn't mark it as unread - so missed it this morning! Let me see what Adobe Audition (photoshop for sound! haha) can do... and will be prepared for the meeting
Robyn
Laura Hurley Laura
we can chat tomorrow but wanted to make sure we have a tool that can do this " I mentioned to Kevin your idea of using an AI tool to generate audio using my own or Kevin’s etc voice, and this is to confirm we are both OK with that knowing we get to do a sign off on the final result. I’m guessing the interviews you did of us in MN will be sufficient to train such a model? So, by all means go ahead with that idea. I think this could also allow you to be more adventurous with the way any text etc displays on a given scene vis a vis the imagery, and in some cases audio may substitute entirely for, and be better than, text (or the text could be reduced to just a word or two which the audio fleshes out)."

Ian P.

the H2 in the footer is a hidden element:

Laura H.
Thanks Davey!
David M.
Okay let me see what I can find :)
Laura H.
The extra space I removed was after the full stop in the newsletter sign-up column... so different columns.
Laura H.
Laura H.
This is on prod:
Laura H.
Laura H.
This is how it looks on Dev:
Laura H.
Hey
David Mundell David
 – I was working on the H2 SEO issue in the footer (looking for the H2, which I couldn't find..) but I noticed an extra space in one of the columns, which I backspaced. I saved and now the blue lower bar, containing the T&C and privacy link has completely changed.. I didn't even do anything in that field, so I am not sure what's happened to the styling... 🤔
David M.
Okay thanks for the info I will go through it. Maybe this is something that they are doing anyway
Robyn
either way, I think your move to contact the Drupal team is the right one
Robyn
Hi
David Mundell David
defos chat to them but suspect its related to the upgrades they are doing - I have a. task to test DSI tomorrrow (and still not sure how GEMS fits into the updates) but here's the details of what I do know Post upgrade testing - MATOGEN DIGITAL BASECAMP
David M.
David M.
I think I need to make a ticket for the Drupal team to update the extensions. I am blocked from updating on DEV
Ian P.
Thank you for picking this up
Robyn Robyn
. With the API development, we made changes to the code base, but we didn't change any content, apart from the additional content we added for APIs. Unless we ask the Drupal team to copy the dev database to the production database, it's not possible to overwrite existing content, even if we do push code.
Robyn
Thank you!
Laura H.
The links for the platform enrollment form are updated on Staging and Prod 👍
Laura H.
Thanks, will get on that next. Just working through CLHSS comments - wont be too much longer
Robyn
Thanks
Laura Hurley Laura
if you are able to update the link yes please! It should be this one https://gems.umn.edu/gems-platform-subscription-enrollment-form-page
Laura H.
Indeed Robs. I know I also tested these links at some point as well.. but like you say, we got the opportunity to sort it all out very soon. Do you need it updated in the meantime, or did you sort that out already?
Robyn
either way, this all needs to change soon so we have an opportunity to fix it up x
Robyn
I know! I dont think this is memory loss as we went through all of these at some point but its the wrong link in there (dev and production) It is the correct link at the top - its possible we missed it for over a year but I don't think so - I have personally looked at this page so many times
Laura H.
Gosh, things on GEMS defos need some support so we can get back on track
Robyn
Robyn
We can discuss tomorrow but something has gone wrong with GEMS on one of the roll-outs - we have the old Platform call to action sitting there with an old form (google form)_ advertising all the wrong rates etc - I don't know when this happened but assume it was on the API roll out - this site needs a proper clean out and check - we know we need to see how the Drupal update fits in as well but heads up -
Robyn
no worries, thanks,
Laura Hurley Laura
no probs at all, just wanted to make sure I don't boob up the meeting - go with what you think and you are right, the notes make the video unnecessary so lets see how we go - thanks so much
Laura H.
Sorry to confuse! I added those there (all together with my question on Learning) to share in the email with the prototype link. But also, just to mention in the call that we have specific questions for specific feedback. I think having added the notes and questions to the Xd link makes a video a bit unnecessary now, unless it still feels unclear. What do you think
Robyn Robyn
 ?
Robyn
Not sure Lauskie
Robyn
Laura Hurley Laura
I see you added the above notes to the agenda - I want to clarify that you are doing what we said this morning or ? will you share the prototype with the team and include the above mentioned specific feedback on the email -  I am not sure what the plan is - please let me know :)
Laura H.
I've added some comments and the question directly to the Xd: https://xd.adobe.com/view/4012d6c8-5dda-4b2d-af30-52898c9781fc-1541/grid
Laura H.
Thanks team. Very valuable feedback and agree that we can pose these questions with how it is now. Plus a question for GEMS: Do you feel there is enough focus on the GEMS learning courses vs bringing the partner course links up near the top of the Learning page?
Ian P.
There may be more, but thought it would be helpful to put those down
Ian P.
I hear you
Robyn Robyn
- I'm also not 100% sure about placement of menu items. I think the principle of focusing on services at the top is good, so it's just about finding the right balance. My suggestion is to share this as is for feedback.
Re knowledge base, we can also sprinkle in links throughout the website to relevant sections.

Laura Hurley Laura
if it was me asking for specific feedback, it would be about the following:
- Do you think the website's main purpose is clear from the top-level navigation? If not, what should change?
- Are we achieving the goal of reducing number of clicks to reach desired content?
- Do you like the visual update, incl. rounded edges etc.?
- Are you happy with the treatment of careers / team members on separate pages?
- Are we providing enough airtime to your partners, or should we find more ways to showcase their involvement?
- Is the knowledge base structure clear and easy to navigate for users?
Robyn
thanks
Laura Hurley Laura
I think you will need a video to go with this once Ian has had a look. I am unsure about the new links in the footer for knowledge base specifically as it feels a bit lost there. Maybe it can work into the header links somehow - perhaps once we understand the categories, we can link them to services . I don't think the learning set up works - the fact that you have to click through to know what courses you need for GEMS while partner courses are the first thing you see feels off to me. It feels like it should be the other way around.  I also wanted to check that Globus is used for Platform?  I think its exchange that has the Globus into Github connect but not sure so  thought I would mention - thanks !
Laura H.
Robyn
David Mundell David
Kris shared this with us so sharing with you as well - not sure how it works but seems like a good way for us to check accessibility "Matogen Tam,

I just learned that UMN has an accessibility checker for Drupal sites, it's called Editoria11y. Looks like you have to enable it, unless CFANS already did and that is where the messages I was seeing came from. Maybe something worth using, or a good resource before revamped pages are published.

Kris"

GEMS agenda - add / edit as you see fit 📈 GEMS agenda 26 September 2024 - GEMS
Robyn
Thanks, Lau, we were not planning on showing anything visual to them today - we are only talking through the plans. If you think you have enough time to apply the changes, make sure Ian and I are aligned and record the work you have done  + share it before the meeting, don't let me stop you! x
Laura H.
No probs, I'm working through the changes now quickly, and will see how far I can get. Reckon I could get most of it in so they have a clear piccie, cuz not sure if explaining lands vs having a visual
Robyn
Laura Hurley Laura
we had to leave the meeting so quickly so I wanted to make sure we are on the same page - I suspect you are going to need more time on the prototype as we came at you with some new thoughts - we could share the video and tell the team what we are planning on doing vs sharing the completed prototype - what do you think?
Robyn
I am not super strong on these and missed the Faarm part (lol - not my finest moment) Let chat about this tomorrow (little bit ) and then wait for our fearless leader to let us know what he thinks 🤩
Laura H.
Thanks so much
Robyn Robyn
🤗
  • FAARM is covered in Scene 6 - slide 17, is that still a bit light? Maybe needs more mention in the beginning and then to be weaved in as the video progresses. But perhaps FAARM is a part of the "How" - looking at how they implement the things they can do. So, thinking, should that be said differently?
  • Part of the how is the data interoperability, so maybe that needs to be made clearer too...
Robyn
Hello
Laura Hurley Laura
, I had a look and added my brainfarts in here - I am not sure if you are still adding the faarm goodies or if that's what you need input on, how to weave that in - it feels like a good representation of what the teams can do but not sure we have driven home how they do it (its quite high level) maybe thats okay - either way, I am sure how to change that either. sorry, not sure if my thoughts are helpful but things like Uspacial - will the person who does not even believe in climate change know what we mean - (i know they are not the primary audience necessarily but I imagine that it needs to be clear for all )

, I pushed a small change to GEMS dev branch to fix the variable issue that was outputting html
Laura H.
Coming in late, was eating some lunch - thanks for sharing this Ian, - It does give me a bit of context for video A (dunno why I got it in my head that it was a 2 parter - but this puts that to bed, phew) I will start on Video C storyboard and get that in a place before tackling A, just cuz we have a firmer idea of direction and messaging there, and think a chat with Lori and co will help us unlock whats needed for A
Ian P.
nope
Robyn
did she respond yet? I know you reached out

I've reached out to Lori, yes

are you going to set up time with Lori / has she responded to your Faarm email? I am not sure where you are at

Laura Hurley Laura
Robyn Robyn
- just wanted to reshare Phil's comments to Lori last week after our meeting. I think it's important to leave some space for her input as well.

I had a great meeting with the Matogen team here in Stellenbosch on Thursday. Our story line for Video C in the link I shared, our multi-trait prediction work, is getting pretty clear cut (I think!), namely the race between crop varietal change and climate change using wheat breeding as the focal point. This video will also surface our links with the international research system, namely CIAT (see our just posted blog here, feel free to repost!) and a new project with CIMMYT we have underway. We also knocked around various “themes”/story lines for Video A that did include, but not exclusively, the notion of GEMS-FAARM engagement. It also brings in our cross-campus engagement with DSI, RC (U spatial and MSI), FFAR, private sector, and so on.

Ian and the Matogen team are going to take the next step in storyboarding out both of the videos, so it will be very useful to know asap Tim’s reactions and thoughts on FAARM in relation to Video A. As I previously conveyed, I had mentioned this to Brian B. the week before last and he was agreeable to the idea, but definitely want to actively dovetail with FAARM comms and related strategy as we progress our video and related comms efforts.

FYI, Laura is also well along with a really nice refresh of the GEMS web site. The intent is not to remake the entire site, but to give it a visual and layout refresh based on GEMS developments over he past few years since we launched the site, including surfacing more explicitly the 5 service areas of GEMS and how users can access those services. As part of that refresh, the home page is being restructured and we plan to make more explicit and active (via hot links and cross postings) our engagement with DSI, USpatial, MSI. The intent is to show that GEMS/CFANS sits at the intersection of a large UMN capacity in the digital and data sciences with cutting edge analytical and compute capacity to scale. My sense is that many (most!) external audiences have no clue that UMN and CFANS have access to this type of capacity. Given these very capabilities are core to the vision and operational practice of FAARM, not least as Brian recently communicated in his funding request a few weeks ago to the State Legislature by way of UMN VP Finance, we’d hoped to also point explicitly to FAARM on the GEMS home page as well.

Cross fertilizing ideas and comms opportunities between FAARM and GEMS seems to be a virtuous circle in my mind, but I recognize timing and messaging and such are key. Hence my desire for active engagement on this matter.

Bottom Line(s):
If Tim is agreeable to us surfacing FAARM in our video A, and has any material to offer, please advise as soon as possible on that decision and share any video/image etc material that would help in that regard.

Although I propose Ian and crew have the next go to produce a structured outline for us all to discuss (based on the ideas we brainstormed here on Thursday), still happy for any thoughts from you. And maybe a zoom chat between Ian and yourself would be helpful at this ideation stage?

Oh boo.

look like I can't increase the character length of the units on the API data specifications:
Laura H.
ok! will give that a try, just gonna finish the glow thingies and will get on that next
Ian P.
You should be able to add a link using an <a> tag
Laura H.
Laura H.
FOrgot they also want a link in the institution field
Laura H.
I can do that, can I also make it possible to add a link?
Ian P.
Maybe we should do that
Ian P.
We can adjust the allowed characters on those fields -
Laura H.
Ian Parsons Ian
I've added the weather API: https://gems.umn.edu/apis/weather - but there was quite a bit of info missing in the documentation, the units were listed as variables and the list was too long to fit in the field, so I had to leave off some and say "among others" then linked the complete list under Classes. Not sure if that makes sense/was the right thing to do. Would you mind giving it a quick look and if that's cool, will share it with Phil and Jesse to check it.
Laura H.
Ohh! Ok, there is still a new post on GEMS though, so will make sure we post on that: https://gems.umn.edu/news/weeding-out-bad-mutations-enhance-cassava-productivity-and-climate-resilience

Let's have a quick look tomorrow. If we're seeing the same issue on dev, let me try to get that resolved first. If it's just on production, we can send in a ticket

I've pushed an update for this; you should see it in the next 10 minutes. The design doesn't cater for multiple sources per api product, so Laura can jump in with feedback if needed.
Ian P.
They should all work the same; I'll have a quick look there
Robyn
hey
Ian Parsons Ian
please confirm that the only one that the gems team should look at is this one https://gems.dev.umn.edu/node/511 . I clicked on biotic threats https://gems.dev.umn.edu/node/501 and the layout is a problem - are we fixing this when we go live?
Ian P.
Robyn Robyn
I've added placeholder images to the APIs, so we can send this on to GEMS to test. https://gems.dev.umn.edu/gems-exchange-apis
Robyn
no probs! Its in good shape so Lau can confirm but suspect those little buttons need to go in
Ian P.
Great, thanks
Robyn Robyn
. Sorry, I had a blind spot on those Get Access buttons. I think they're a leftover from the previous design, but even then we didn't add them.
Robyn
Thanks
Ian Parsons Ian
It is looking good, I think its best Lau gives this a whirl as I am not sure I have the latest file. I think its this one https://xd.adobe.com/view/5397c206-dce6-44ba-b8e3-1385258fbccb-06c4/ If so we are missing the get access buttons https://gems.dev.umn.edu/gems-exchange-apis

Notes:
- Here's an example of an API page: https://gems.dev.umn.edu/node/511
- Here is the full API page: https://gems.dev.umn.edu/gems-exchange-apis
- Each API needs an additional header image; I've added a field where this can be uploaded.

the API pages are ready for testing on gems.dev.umn.edu
Ian P.
I've created a new one so that we have a better sense of project spend
Robyn
If you don't need a new one, I would just update what we have vs creating another project but I am not sure how this may affect your billing so completely happy to do whatever works best
Ian P.
Yes, please go ahead. Should we create a new project or continue on the old one?
Robyn
Ian Parsons Ian
is it okay to update the GEMS budget - I am not sure we if you have done that yet but looks like a lower budget in Clockify.  Can I go ahead and update it to 23 k / 9 months so 2.5 us per month ish (about 43 k per month) ?
Robyn
Ian P.
Robyn Robyn
thanks, we'll be able to fix that in dev

this blog was a rush on the 3rd, I didnt go check it like I usually do - our process is kris lets us know and we check - either way last minute thing but the cover does not look good

I've made some tiny tweaks - I think this will give Kevin and Phil a great start.

Robyn

just thinking about Kumbaya - have you shared the doc with Ian? We need to give Phil and co feedback before next week so please close the loop on that today?

Ok cool! will have a look in a bit and let you know, thanks

 - new API structure is ready for you on GEMS. You'll see the paragraph structure now allows you to add Data Specifications and Source Details separately, within a API Product paragraph. When you have a moment, pls check it out and let me know if it works ok. Note, I've left the old Get Access button in place on the API overviews. Will replace it with the button below each table once we activate the single pages.
Ian P.
Robyn
okie dokie, not sure if there's anything we can do to limit the tags going forward so whatever works best I am happy with - don't have strong feelings about this x
Laura H.
I've removed the tags except the ones you've listed, users can see the post on the landing page 🙌
Robyn
Your call
Laura Hurley Laura

Laura H.
Sorry, I do disagree because that's then removing this blog from all Service tags and the Categories, making it less discoverable. With the previous blogs loaded having also 14/16 tags, then the next blog they upload themselves, they won't hold back either.. Is there another way we could work around this, sorry to be a pest.
Robyn
its not the end of the world of course so over to you
Robyn
Robyn
I did think about that Lau - 13 still feels way too much
Laura H.
Following them applying so many tags we removed the tags from the excerpts on the Home page and the blog landing page. I guess I just wonder if it isn't listed with the relevant tags and someone searches a tag they could miss that content that would be relevant
Robyn
Thanks for confirming
Ian Parsons Ian
maybe we should cut it down to five for a happy medium
Ian P.
We initially suggested a limit of 3, but they've blown way past that :)
Robyn
Thanks
Laura Hurley Laura
they all seem relevant but 13 feels like it too much - I recall something about maximum 10 but not sure if my memory is accurate - do you recall something like this  ? If not, move on dot com
Laura H.
I chose the ones I thought were relevant, let me know if any of those should go, please. Thanks Robs!
Robyn
Looks great

Ian P.
I'm seeing the same thing - let's just give it a couple of hours and see what happens
Ian P.
I
Robyn
ps did we intend to have so many tags?
Robyn
same
Laura Hurley Laura
so think that confirms its a cacheing issue - old posts not updated yet but new one is right vibes ?
Laura H.
But weirdly the banner is not on any of the other posts... do you see the same?
Laura H.
Ian P.
We have budget available, so let's do it
Robyn
ps its actually only one question that needs a fix ( I think)
Robyn
Ian Parsons Ian
in looking at the GEMS site I see that we have a bit of a miss on the FAQ's for exchange https://gems.umn.edu/gems-exchange-faqs ( I saw it on dev and then checked production ) so my question - does this go into the new contract or can we afford to fit it in now as a gesture of goodwill? I saw we still have a fair amount of budget left and the contract runs till the end of June?
Robyn
verify now message at the top - not sure if that's why I am struggling
Robyn
Robyn
I wanted you to check if you spot something obvious / if that message at the top is our problem
Ian P.
Robyn Robyn
what do you need from me?
Robyn
but didnt want to send this if we cannot actually send
Robyn
Hi Jesse

Thanks for your e-mail. I have created a quick template using your wording in FreshCRM - it is very easy to contact the 15 users we have noted in Fresh. If everyone is happy with the wording, we'd be happy to share the message from Fresh.

You will need a Freshlogin to see the below:

I have created a view for the contacts who have signed up via Fresh which can be seen here:  https://gemsinformatics.myfreshworks.com/crm/sales/contacts/view/22007259035?per_page=25&sort=lead_score

We'd bulk email these contacts from Fresh.

Robyn
and tested if we can just simply email them by putting myself down and not sure if its working properly
Robyn
there's only 15 people - put Jesse's mail into Fresh
Robyn
Hey Lau, thanks for the reminder, I have an email sitting -
Ian Parsons Ian
Fresh is acting up so my test emails were not going through - I mentioned yesterday but was on you with many things so might have been missed
Laura H.
Hey

 - I see Phil is asking about GEMS video. Are you ready to share the final version with them?
Robyn
Thanks, Lau
Laura H.
It's exporting! Sho, looks like it might take a while (30 min or so). I will share this first go directly with the GEMS team via the drive. everyone will have different takes, so I think it would be awesome to get everyone's raw feels.
Ian P.
Laura Hurley Laura
do what you think is right
Laura H.
Will it be ok to share with them without having an internal look?
Laura H.
Robyn Robyn
Sorry I only saw your message now.  I'm so close! just wrapping up the last bits of the intro, I can share the video without the intro.. But looking to finish it shortly
Robyn
Laura Hurley Laura
hope your day is going well! Do you think the GEMS video is going to be ready today? I need to communicate with the team if its not going to be done so please let me know
Laura H.
All perfecto on my end ✊

Fixed! I did another hard refresh and its working now - thank you
Ian Parsons Ian

Robyn
Robyn
I will try again a little later but the news page seems right, the home page still has a gap for me
Ian P.
This is where you can flush the cache - just click Flush all caches
Ian P.
Ian P.
Alrighty no worries. Can you check if you're still seeing the issues on the home page, and the odd news item on the news page?
Robyn
nope, I have never done that - didn't realise that is something I needed to do
Ian P.
Let me do that quickly in any case
Ian P.
Have you cleared the Drupal cache?
Robyn
i also went incognito (not logged in though) and saw the same
Robyn
sorry for the confusion
Ian Parsons Ian
I was on dev and then had a brain fart that I needed to be on production;  your update said rolled out to dev, not production so my bad. I will try again a little later but have done a hard refresh x many times, etc and the above print screen is still what I see on dev
Ian P.
Sorry julle, I'm getting very confused. I fixed the issues you saw last week, and pushed them to dev, so you should be testing on dev. I also fixed the pagination issue, so if you're still seeing an odd post on the first page of /news, it's most likely a caching issue.

Robyn Robyn
if you're still seeing the same issues on dev, I'd want to wait until those issues are resolved for you before I roll out to production
Robyn
Robyn
as in live on production
Robyn
okay, I thought you said the changes were live, we can move on if I am the only one seeing all the same issues, guessing its cacheing
Laura H.
Ian Parsons Ian
 – On dev everything is perfect for me, aside from the loner post at the bottom of the feed on the News landing page. I thought that was going to stay as is, but saw that Kris and Phil noted it, so possibly something to mention to them?
Ian P.
Robyn Robyn
Laura Hurley Laura
yes you should be testing on dev. Which issues are you still seeing?
Laura H.
Laura H.
The news page also looks good on Dev, just that one loner at the bottom, which Phil and Kris noted, but thought we were leaving that one as is?
Laura H.
Laura H.
I tested on Dev, logged in and looks great on the home page (no weird edit view block and the image sizes are perfect), but are we meant to test on prod?
Robyn
the home page is fine, its just the new layout on the news page (I think) that's got some words hanging off the block/ not fitting in so lekker
Robyn
Robyn
I am spotting some other new issues
Robyn
Ian Parsons Ian
thought things were not working and realised I was on the dev site 😉
David M.
Damn! I hoping it was something small 😢
Ian P.
Hey
David Mundell David
– I ended up rewriting all of the CSS. It resolved one issue, but there were still a whole bunch of other issues 😭
David M.
Hey
Ian Parsons Ian
, did that fix the issue?
Ian P.
Great, let me take a look
David M.
has a
 aspect-ratio: 1;
if we remove that then we get unsquished. if I am understanding it correctly
David M.
This class:
.news-list > ul > li:not(:nth-child(1)) figure, .news-list > ul > li:not(:nth-child(1)) div[class*=featured-image] > div
David M.
So we want the normal blocks text area not to be squished
David M.
David M.
David M.
Okay sure I can look into it
Ian P.
David Mundell David
I'm getting badly stuck with the CSS on the News page on gems.umn.edu/news. To be honest the CSS is way over my head. :) This is what we should end up with: https://xd.adobe.com/view/b9fff26c-c202-4313-8965-ebda5074ce67-ecac/

I have the logic working now so that page 2 onwards has consistent styling for all the article blocks, but you'll notice the text is cramped on all of these. If you have a moment later, would you take a look and let me know if you have some advice?

Laura H.
Sorry! It is confusing! Here is the first draft on the drive: https://drive.google.com/drive/u/1/folders/1Hn0r0mcAN4CF2d4ezyb2kwC42UZ2CvRs

I had to add 3 new slides at the beginning to accommodate the Puzzle intro, so slide 7 (new 6) is now slide 9...
Robyn
Laura Hurley Laura
I am finding it difficult to follow the changes you made and did not make in line with Phil's email - I also don't have the original to compare it to so my suggestion would be to talk us through it - I am not sure if I am missing information or if you decided not to do some of the suggestions  - stuff like this "
  • Suggested new caption for slide 7 (new 6): “Partnering with UMN’s Leif Olmanson, GEMS monitors water quality via satellites and a supercomputer”.

The last few changes on the API page are live. Please give it a look, and use a cache-busting URL if you still see the Get access button next to each API name. https://gems.umn.edu/gems-exchange-apis

All good, there's so much to remember and we don't control the drupal team so we have to roll with what we have
Ian P.
💩 😬
Robyn
it is what it is
Robyn
No problem, thanks Ian - we'll let the GEMS team know this afternoon
Ian P.
Robyn Robyn
I've uploaded all the content. Waiting now for the Drupal team to deploy the code. When I said I would take it live today, I forgot that we can't deploy to production; we need their Drupal team to do it. Apologies for the oversight there.

Once they've deployed I need to add in the block on the API page, and then we're done.
Robyn
how's the GEMS edits coming along Iantjies?
Robyn
I can also double check they want to go live so will approach it that way -
Robyn
No probs Ian, I will let Kris know that is our plan, its been a busy morning!

exciting to see GEMs up there with the medical folks - I think its quite a spot to get on the newsletter

one more thing for the list today, from Phil:
Its national ag week in the US and UMN communications folks (aka Lori!) have just published a Q&A with me titled Why you should care about ag R&D. It’s pitched to a general and policy (funder) audience and points to recent work we’ve done to make the case fo R&D. Please post on social media.
Robyn
No probs!
Ian P.
Robyn Robyn
can I suggest that we just use the APIs that are there now for demonstration purposes? If changes to copy are needed, please have them review the copy docs directly.
Robyn
will you add the other api's - we are missing Crop, elevation and landcover
Robyn
It's all a bit cattywampus there for me but I see what you did and it makes sense to me so they just need to check it
Ian P.
Robyn Robyn
yes I agree, the GEMS team can check the content. I'm using the top section of content; I don't think the rest of it is relevant to the website
Robyn
I think the GEMS team need to take accountability for checking the content properly

its a bit tricky to test because I dont know which of the datasets they actually want to show and they all seem to have similar names so just looking at the top detail but the documents are confusing

Ian P.
Ian P.
Please use cachebusting URL
Ian P.
API page is ready for testing: https://gems.dev.umn.edu/gems-exchange-apis
Ian P.
Robyn Robyn
is this the correct link for APIs? https://github.com/GEMS-UMN/Exchange-Notebooks/blob/master/README.md

Are we linking all APIs to this one page?
Laura H.
Regarding the larger images. I see that GEMS Water API has a really long description and the image stretches down the lenght of the content, as opposed to being a fixed height. I'm 100% cool with that.
Laura H.
Ahh, I see the "Get access" buttons now. I think that works, though buttons across the site are typically blue. But I understand that the bar it is on top of turns blue on hover, so the contrast works well. It's when you are not hovering, the grey white contrast is enough for me, but I wonder if that might be too similar and cause some accessibility difficulties for those with visual impairments.
Ian P.
The accordion heading and button colours are different. Try a cachebusting URL for those images - gems.dev.umn.edu/gems-exchange-apis/?123sdjlsfkdjalskdjfalskdjflaskdjla
Robyn
For sure! Getting stuff done! Thanks Ian and Lau!
Laura H.
Ok finally the page loaded and see what you say about the bigger images
Ian Parsons Ian
, will be nice to see those consistent sizes. What colours are different? I see you've used the green which looks great, are you referring to the background colour? It looks fab Ian!
Ian P.
Let's keep this ride going, people :) Thanks for pushing,

checking now - but thank you and well done Ian!

Notes:
- I must still do mobile styling
- You might see really big images in the API accordion - that should resolve in the next few minutes. I've pushed a fix already.
- I've only added two APIs for demo purposes.

some of the colours are different from what's on your design for consistency with the rest of the site. Happy to change these.

not sure if you'll have time today, but if you do, it would help a great deal if you can upload API images to the dev site. gems.dev.umn.edu.
