I had a look at the prototype and the intention was to have the PI's in the top nav, that never happened because the PI's are a thing on its own so I think we went live with 3 options in the top - I think the team added MyMSI for themselves as all Lau's prototypes have the PI link there and that link ended up in the submenu for research called MSI PI's
We can look at the styling as part of the bigger picture but think that's what happened here
