 GLOW shared a new PDF with me to upload - they spotted a mistake on the previous one - they are also going to share some language goodies by the end of the week.  I tried to see if I could jump in and just upload the new one but the file is too large and therefore not allowing me to upload it - Did you or Lau edit the file we received before? Just wondering how one logo update has gotten us from 3 MB to 11 MB - please let me know ?

Thanks so much, we just wrapped the first webinar. Understood about extra development needed.

 

However, I realise there is a bit of a niggly issue.

 

Robyn, I am realising that if we ask the publisher for pdfs of each chapter individually to put on the relevant chapter page, then readers will not see the endnotes in each of those chapters because all the endnotes are, well, at the very end of the report. So would we have to then upload the endnotes as a separate file also– do you see what I mean from a user experience perspective?

 

We cannot ask the publishers to put the endnotes at the end of every chapter, it just goes way beyond their scope of work and would require days more work and budget. They are only contracted to produce individual chapter pdfs if we request it, from the existing full report pdf file.

 

So either we can ask them to generate a separate endnotes file that we have a button for, to present at every download opportunity (although this might be a bit clunky? E.g. it says ‘download full report’ , download summary of this chapter’ or ‘download executive summary’ and beside that a button ‘download endnotes’) or we could I suppose change the signposting to say that the full report includes endnotes but then I think we’d have to fit the words ‘download full report (includes endnotes’) onto the full report blue button and I am not sure if that is feasible?

 

Do you have any ideas you can suggest on how to deal with this? I suppose the default is that we could just not make the smaller chapter pdfs available at all and so dodge this problem entirely? Ie the only download available would be the full pdf download with everything integral and intact. I could personally also live with that if the other alternatives are too messy.

 

Do give us your ideas so Emma and I can weigh up! Hope that makes sense,

Yup - what I mean is that the summary PDF link automatically shows up, even if it doesn't have a PDF linked to it. So, I dropped the full PDF link into the summary PDF space as well. If people click on it they will get the full PDF

I am afraid the missing footnotes issue has happened again and you will have to investigate and implement a fix.

 

I made one change in chapter 4:

 

I inserted one paragraph break, then I pressed ‘Update’. The footnote (just one single footnote in this chapter) disappeared.

I am really sorry, just met with ODI’s KM/comms head in my department and it’s a ‘no’ at present on contrast/accessibility and on the size of the photo, she feels the photo in the banner in the new reworking is ‘too bitty’ (too small compared to other photos on the homepage, which I get – now that she has pointed it out).

 

New proposition:

 

Can we put the transparent white shading (is it 20%? Whatever it is) behind BOTH the digibook title and behind the logos - and potentially running those together in the same box even? -  and overlaid over the photo – so, restore the photo to full size across the entire banner?

 

Actually so it is a bit more like the CASA example I shared although perhaps with title and logos along the horizonal length of the photo-banner, rather than bunched on one side?

 

Also checking that you have the alt version of the CDKN logo if needed (which spells out Climate & … under the circles instead of on the right) in case that helps with squeezing everything in?"

I'm sorry, we'll need to do the footnotes again. The only thing that I can think is that Mairi is keeping all of the pages open in her browser. When she goes in to make edits, it overwrites all of our previous edits without her realising it.

regarding the multiple text boxes in section 1 chapter 1 - the first box "Countries with high..." is also currently a footnote, but this footnote is different from all the other, so I also added it as a text box to see which would make the most sense - let's have a quick look in stand up :) re box 2 and 3, the images are listed one after the other in the doc, so wondering if we should put them both in one text box and have a box title like "Global Emissions: A visual Overview of Current Trends and Future Challenges"

this looks great! I don't see any major issues. Quick notes: 
- The first H2 has a missing opening quote - 'Net zero' is the new frame for development
- I would prefer having the page titles in Title Case, instead of all caps
- If there's a way to split up multiple text boxes in sequence, I think that would help a bit with the layout
- Inconsistent size of Read More button (I'll create a task for myself for this one)

Some foot notes have external links, how can we handle these - at the moment I can't seem to add a URL/link to the field.

There are some quotes that include links, either after the quote or included in the title section (like a link to where the person works, for e.g.) how can we handle this?

 you should be able to put any text styles into the regular paragraph area. If that doesn't work, I'll create a new block type, or like you said, add a title field to images.

Next question, :) – In the doc, some images require headings/titles and a caption, but there is only space for a caption. Adding a section header will put it in the sidebar, which is not ideal. So for now I've added a text box above the image, because there is space for a title there, could you add either a title field on images or a simple Title row (which would not end up in the sidebar)?

No, that's just a different option for displaying text. For example, if it's a separate section with more info, but not part of the main content.

We haven’t commissioned the translations yet, so we will need to fit them in later. 

 

Given the difficulties of garnering partner input, I think we must rather focus on getting the English up online in as best condition as possible for the contributors to give a check and for me to then input edits based on their review?

 

We will have to commission the translations once that process is finished and the English finalised - and possibly as late as September. This means you may not have the translated text until very end of Sept. I have a catch-up with my SSN colleagues (in copy) re the production timelines later this week and they hold the contract with you so can we look at your contract timelines after I and they have chatted? But the priority is definitely the English for now.

 

Our only hard deadline on getting the translation published is the 31 Oct end of project date; of course, if we can do it quicker, then great.

This project is about to come alive - I checked when we can expect content and the client has asked if they can start sending from this week - they wanted to deliver the lot as a bang shoot but are having issues with people on their side - therefore they want to send us batches from this week. The project needs to be delivered to the client by the 16th of September for the latest which means all testing and content loading should be completed at least a week before. I have set the deadline for the 13th of September but heads up team

I'll give some thought to whether we need to make any changes to our proposed budget. On most projects, we start our development once we have all the content for the project. This project is unique, though, in that most of the development work has already been completed. It might be helpful to spend some time together to understand what the final content may look like. Armed with that information we should be able to complete most of our work before you hand over the final content. "
