About the Center
The Biotechnology and Biomanufacturing Innovation Center was launched in December 2023 (link to kick-off event) to build a biomanufacturing ecosystem in Minnesota.
The Center recognizes the University of Minnesota’s strengths in biotechnology and bioinnovation as a strong foundation for accelerating cross-disciplinary research, innovation, entrepreneurship, education, training, outreach, engagement, and partnership to drive Minnesota’s next-generation manufacturing and economic development.
BBIC aims to catalyze cross-disciplinary and translational research and entrepreneurship by building partnerships and seeding collaborative projects and programs. An inaugural call for seed funding proposals has resulted in six project teams receiving funding in several high BBIC priority areas. BBIC is engaging with external partners to identify needs, challenges and opportunities for  bioeconomy workforce development and innovations to build and retain a talent pool for Minnesota, create new biotech jobs and businesses.
